Early on, Mahdi saw an exciting future at Scania
6 NOVEMBER 2024
Mahdi has previously participated at the Summer Technology Program and during his Master of Science in Engineering did a thesis project at Scania Oskarshamn. Today he works as a Project Leader.
- It feels wonderful to have been employed and to work with automation, it's one of my major areas of interest, says Mahdi.
Before the start of Mahdi's thesis project in 2023, he answered what he wanted to work with in the future. The goal was a career in technology and leadership, and he saw Scania as an attractive employer after graduating.
- It's fantastic that it has turned out exactly like that. My image of Scania was an inclusive workplace with great development opportunities, and to now be able to work here is wonderful, he says.
Thesis project led to job
In the role as Project Manager, Mahdi works mainly with automation, which was also the assignment in his thesis project.
- My task was to propose a suitable method for measuring the degree of automation in the Assembly and Logistics as a step on Scania Oskarshamn's automation and digitalization journey. Now I work with digitalization and automating processes in production. It is a very large project that includes different parts.
- Technology is developing rapidly, so it's important to always be on your toes and not lose momentum. At Scania, we also work with the challenges that society faces. This applies to the environment and sustainability, technology development, but it also applies to working for equity, inclusion and diversity, Mahdi continues.
Went back
For five years, Mahdi studied for a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering at Blekinge Institute of Technology, with a focus on mechanical engineering and sustainable product development. His first contact with Scania Oskarshamn was at the Summer Technology Program in 2022.
- The Summer Technology Programme gave me a great opportunity to get to know the company, work with problem solving and expand my network. I enjoyed it so much that I went back when it was time to do the thesis project.
After graduating, Mahdi got a job at Scania Oskarshamn.
- I started at the Logistics Centre in Oskarshamn and worked as a Logistics Developer for almost a year. Then I came to the cab production. It was an interesting position out there that I applied for and in May 2024 I became a Project Manager. I enjoy both my work and the group very much. You are not limited to only work with automation, it can also be project management other types of assignments.
A sea of opportunities
Mahdi lives in Kalmar and commutes to work.
- The proximity to Oskarshamn was a factor in me applying for a job at Scania Oskarshamn, I have about an hour's travel time.
What are your future goals?
- Right now, I'm not thinking about any new goals, but I enjoy my job very much and have great support from colleagues and managers to constantly develop. My continued goals are to move towards leadership and at the same time build on my technical skills.
Mahdi highlights the opportunities to be able to make a career within the company.
- Scania offers a wealth of opportunities and different directions. It's great to be able to continue to develop and seek new paths if you want to, without having to change employers.
What do you do in your spare time?
- I love exercise and Scania prioritises and offers good training opportunities, wellness allowances and many wellness activities to ensure everyone's well-being, concludes Mahdi.
