Scania helps German logistics giant go electric with complete e-mobility solution
Germany based Nagel Group is serious about going electric. Watch the film to see how one of Europe’s largest food logistics operators has started its e-mobility journey with electric trucks and charging solutions from Scania – with plans for solar energy from its own warehouse roof.
With 130 locations and around 7,000 trucks, Germany-based Nagel Group is one of the largest food logistics operators in Europe.
In our accompanying film, Dirk Lückingsmeier, the group’s Head of Fleet, says that his company began addressing the issue of CO2 reduction at an early stage.
“We have investigated and tested various technologies for this issue. We looked for partners who are suitably reliable and are also able to develop and further enhance this technology,” says Lückingsmeier.
Complete e-mobility solution from Scania
Now the company has started to operate a complete e-mobility solution from Scania, including electric trucks as well as charging infrastructure.
Before offering the charging solution, Scania’s team thoroughly analysed Nagel Group’s needs and transport patterns, including payload, topography, start-and-stop-frequency, temperature, the speed of the vehicle and the standstill time. Key for the team was to come up with a scalable and flexible solution that is possible to expand easily for growing needs in the future.
“Our ambition at Scania is to offer the whole solution. It’s not only the truck. We try to understand the customer’s business,” says Thiemo Freyer, Head of Pre-sales at Scania in Germany.
“We are very satisfied with the vehicle so far”
Bastian Seidel, who works with Network and Fleet Management at Nagel Group, says the company appreciates the flexible charging solution.
“The ranges are right, the charging power is right, and we are managing our 350 kilometre route well. We have very good charging curves and are very satisfied with the vehicle so far,” he says.
“In the future, we plan to integrate the charging station into the site’s energy management in order to best exploit our photovoltaic systems to make the trucks environmentally friendly.”
No going back to combustion engines
So, what are the results so far? Dirk Lückingsmeier says the reaction from drivers and other colleagues has been very positive.
“Up to now there has been great enthusiasm among the drivers who have driven this vehicle, and they actually don’t want to go back to the combustion engine anymore,” he says.
