KHAIMAL BORNEO TRAVEL & TOURS SDN BHD IS THE FIRST IN SARAWAK TO RECEIVE THE SCANIA NEW BUS GENERATION EURO 5, REDUCING EMISSIONS BY UP TO 9%
Kuching, Sarawak, 6 March – Khaimal Borneo Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd (Khaimal Borneo) has received the first Scania New Bus Generation (NBG) and the first Euro V Semi Hi-Deck Tour Coach in Sarawak, marking a significant step towards a sustainable transport system in the state. The handover ceremony was officiated by Dr Elena Gregoria Chai Chin Fern, Principal Assistant Secretary of the Arts, Culture and Heritage section in the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts Sarawak. It was witnessed by Encik Mohamad Fikri Zainol Majid, Managing Director of Khaimal Borneo Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd, and Puan Rini Sabir Mässgård, Dealer Director of East Region, Scania Southeast Asia.
The ceremony that took place at Scania Malaysia in Kuching also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Scania and Khaimal Borneo for an additional two units of NBG Euro 5.
Also gracing the ceremony was Puan Mary Wan Mering, Director of Sarawak Tourism Board, Puan Amelia Roziman, Chief Executive Officer of Business Event Sarawak, and Puan Audry Wan Ullok, President of Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF).
“Energy is one of the largest contributors of Sarawak’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, creating opportunities for emission reductions. Thus, green mobility is crucial. Therefore, I would like to congratulate both Khaimal Borneo and Scania for taking the initiative to achieve a more sustainable transportation system within the tourism industry,” stated Dr Elena.
“Our purchase of the Scania New Bus Generation Euro V tour coach aligns with our commitment to Sarawak's Sustainability Vision 2030. The New Bus Generation of Scania can save up to 9% in fuel and emissions, without compromising on performance and drivability. The most significant savings coming from enhanced engine efficiency and improved cruise control with active prediction,” stated Encik Mohamad Fikri.
The NBG is built to offer enhanced safety for both drivers and passengers through reinforced chassis construction along with the latest addition of Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to its standard safety systems that already includes Electronic Brake System (EBS) with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Traction Control.
Developed with driver and passenger environment in mind, the driver area of the NBG offers the best possible work environment in terms of ergonomics, reachability, and excellent visibility while a comfortable passenger experience is achieved through a forgiving suspension and an efficient gearbox with smooth transmission. Additionally, the efficient climate system and low noise environment of the NBG further improves passenger comfort.
“Beyond the powertrain, driving style is another major factor that affects fuel consumption. Scania Digital Services including Driver Training and Coaching typically reduce fuel consumption and emissions further. Combined with the excellent drivability of Scania coaches, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, and top-quality maintenance services, you can achieve even greater savings. We hope that the industry will adopt this more to achieve sustainability goals too,” stated Puan Rini Sabir Mässgård.
Khaimal Borneo can also move forward and stay focused on what truly matters – growing their business and achieving higher profitability with the unmatched financial solutions from Scania’s Financial Services that they have subscribed to.
