Scania Malaysia relaunched the ‘Future Sustainability Leaders Fund’ by contributing to the ‘Children Planting the Future’ Programme by Rumah Kanak-Kanak Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom (RKKSHK) in Penor, Kuantan. The programme was launched by Puan Murni Azraniza Bt Umar, Headmistress of RKKSHK and Joyce Antar, Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia witnessed by Wan Noaimadudin Wan Mohamad Kamal, Area Service Manager of Scania Southeast Asia, Phang Yee Fong, Dealer Director – Region Central of Scania Southeast Asia and Puan Suryati Taha, Deputy Principal of RKKSHK. The event was attended by the children and teachers of RKKSHK together with staff from Scania Malaysia – Kuantan.
“We were impressed with RKKSHK’s intention in educating children the value of sustainability and sustainable practices for a better future. This resonates with one of Scania’s many commitments which is doing things the right way in every part of our business, including community engagement,” said Wan Noaimadudin.
Initially named the 'Master Sustainability Fund' upon its debut in 2018, the fund is currently being re-launched by Scania Malaysia with a new name and with new vigour. The ‘Future Sustainability Leaders Fund’ continues to support primary schools in Malaysia in starting-up curricular activities, extra-curricular activities or projects focusing on sustainability.
“One of our main objectives, is to create a better tomorrow, for people and planet. We are very happy and proud to support the ‘Children Planting the Future’ programme at RKKSHK. We look forward many more programs to come, where we can continue to support the Future Sustainability Leaders of Malaysia," said Joyce Antar.
RKKSHK’s ‘Children Planting the Future’ programme consists of hydroponic farming, furniture installation using recycled material, pot planting in biodegradable pots with organic potting mix and fertiliser, and planting of fruits tree all around the school. The children also painted a mural using environmentally friendly paints, together with students from the Pahang Foundation College. A total of 123 students, from ages 7 to 17 years old, participated in helping to make the event a success.
“We were able to design this programme, the first of its kind for our school and our children with Scania’s funding. With the themes of ‘Urban Farming’ and ‘Sustainable Lobby Design’, the programme aims to educate the children on the importance of sustainability for a better tomorrow for the society and the environment,” stated Puan Murni.
Primary schools in Malaysia who are inspired by RKKSHK’s programme and would like to seek support from Scania Malaysia’s Future Sustainability Leaders Fund are encouraged to submit their sustainability project and/or ideas to smyenquries@scania.
