Timber transport goes electric
For Scania, it is crucial to work with like-minded actors to meet the urgent need for a sustainable transport system. One example of this is our partnership with Swedish forestry company SCA to develop electric trucks for timber transports. Sweden is one of the world’s biggest exporters of pulp, paper and sawn timber, and SCA is Europe’s largest private forest owner.
SCA has already had a Scania electric timber truck transporting its materials since 2022, but in 2024 the forester supported one of its haulage providers, Lövgrens Åkeri & Entreprenad, in the purchase of a Scania electric vehicle. This new truck, which is fitted with a crane, is the first electric truck in the world to collect timber in the forest for transport to a timber terminal, in this case SCA’s operations in the northern Swedish municipality of Östavall. The electric vehicle is expected to emit 170 tons less carbon dioxide per year compared with a regular timber truck.
