Autonomous trucks go commercial
Scania is a leading light in the commercialisation of autonomous transport. In 2024 the company passed a milestone in its development of this exciting technology when it opened its order book for self-driving mining trucks for the first time.
Both Scania and wider industry see autonomous vehicles as a crucial part of sustainable transport. The technology is especially suitable for mining and hub-to-hub logistics due to its safety, sustainability and efficiency.
Scania’s autonomous mining trucks can operate near-continuously all-day-round, no matter the conditions, which increases productivity; driverless trucks reduce safety risks while also addressing the industry’s persistent driver shortages; and, a mixture of smart maintenance capabilities and fuel-efficient journeys make it both environmentally and economically beneficial to use autonomous vehicles.
As demand for autonomous solutions rises in tandem with new technologies and more legislation, Scania’s advances in this field make it a key contributor to the industry’s transformation.
