Alex Lomas
Alex began his career at one of the UK’s largest car supermarkets, but after eight years with the company, he wanted a new challenge and when an opportunity at Scania Financial Services arose, Alex seized it. It was the exciting next step that he’d been looking for in his career, and one where he could bring his expertise to a new level.
Tell us about your role
When I first joined Scania Financial Services, I stepped into the role of National Business Manager for the bus and coach sector. My focus was on building strong relationships and driving growth in this area of the business. Over time, it’s expanded and taken a new direction – so as well as my ongoing work in the bus and coach sector, I now also run the East Region and look after some of our used vehicle customers too.
My role is always evolving, so I love the variety of the job – no two days are the same. Some days I’m out on the road meeting customers, while others I’m attending industry events. I do appreciate the dynamic nature of the role.
What’s the most interesting part of your role?
It has to be the customers. One day I’ll be discussing crop plans with farmers and the next, learning about double shifts and operational demands from someone in general haulage. I love that diversity.
Every customer has a unique business, and I find it fascinating to understand how each one operates. Finding the best way to help them and support their goals is the most rewarding aspect of my job.
Tell us about a proud career moment
The progress we’ve made in the East Region. We’ve focused on building relationships, laying a solid foundation and helping our customers, and I think when it comes to supporting customers and colleagues in the dealer network, we are surpassing our goals.
This success is the result of hard work, consistency, and a commitment to delivering on promises.
What makes you stand out in your role?
To me it’s more than just a job. It’s about really understanding a customer’s business and tailoring a solution that suits their needs to help it grow – and it’s never a ‘one box fits all’ approach at Scania Financial Services. Every customer is unique, so I take the time to sit down with them and have a proper conversation to build professional relationships and ultimately to show that we care.
How would you describe the culture at SFS?
Positive and unified – everyone is aligned towards the same goal. Scania Financial Services really foster a supportive environment where people genuinely want it to be a great place to work. There’s a strong sense of camaraderie, and the relationships between regions are solid – meaning we’re all pushing each other to do our best.
What’s your favourite part of working with the SFS team?
My favourite part is the family-like atmosphere. There’s a close-knit dynamic that goes beyond just the sales team, and it really makes the whole organisation feel connected and supported.
What excites you most about the future of the industry?
The shift to integrating into our customers day-to-day operations. I value being part of a team that’s united around the common goal of helping customers succeed, and I’m enthusiastic about playing my part in this journey. The opportunity to deepen customer relationships and actively contribute to their growth and resilience makes me optimistic about the future.
What are your hobbies?
I’m a family man, spending time with my wife, children and our energetic 9-year-old French bulldog – who still acts like a puppy.
I enjoy playing football once a week, though I joke that I’m “getting a bit too old” for it. As a massive Arsenal fan, I also love watching their games whenever I can.
Tell us a fun fact about you that your colleagues may not know?
I think most of the team know I am big foodie but not sure that many would know I’m a pretty skilled cook, I love cooking for others – I’m definitely a feeder!
What is something that’s on your bucket list that you hope to accomplish one day?
I love to travel and experience new places. I dream of renting a car and taking a road trip across America, exploring the different landscapes, culture and cities along the way.
