Scania Ecolution ‘A Good Driver’ and ‘A Good Company’ Competitions Crown Pollisum Engineering as Champion

Pollisum Engineering, a local crane and transportation leasing company, has clinched the top prizes at the Scania Ecolution ‘A Good Driver’ and the inaugural ‘A Good Company’ competitions in Singapore, which recognise the carbon reduction achievements of drivers.

“Winning ‘A Good Driver’ and ‘A Good Company’ is a strong recognition of our efforts to emphasise good driving habits with our drivers through regular meetings, sharing sessions and internal awards,” said Mr Chris Ang, Executive Director of Pollisum Engineering. “It is a further encouragement to our drivers, who have been supporting our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, to keep on doing better.”

The two competitions were opened to companies under the Scania Ecolution partnership, where Scania and a participating company would work together towards optimising fuel efficiency in the fleet. Both parties would agree on a set of fuel- and carbon-reduction targets and achieve these by utilising Scania’s total solutions, which are designed to optimise each vehicle to its full potential.

One of these solutions is the Scania Fleet Management System, which measures the fuel efficiency and carbon reduction of each truck or bus and its assigned driver. The data collected, which the operator can view real-time over the Scania Fleet App and MyScania portal, allowed Scania to track the performance of the drivers over the duration of ‘A Good Driver’ and ‘A Good Company’ competitions to decide on the final winners.

The judging was based on the percentage improvement in carbon reduction for the qualifying period of 1 January to 31 December 2023, when compared to the same period the year before. ‘A Good Driver’ competition looked for the best performing individual driver, while ‘A Good Company’ competition identified the company with the best improvement across its entire fleet.

Mr Lim Kok Meng from Pollisum Engineering was crowned the winner in ‘A Good Driver’ competition, with 41 percent improvement in carbon reduction from the previous year. Having been a driver for about 40 years, including the last six years at Pollisum Engineering, a happy Mr Lim offered this tip: “You can save fuel by turning off the engine when the truck is not moving on sites.”

The second and third place winners for ‘A Good Driver’ competition were Mr Zhang Lu of Wendy Transport Enterprise Co with 21 percent improvement in carbon reduction, and Mr Ding Yu of Hoysan Group with 15 percent improvement in carbon reduction, respectively.

In the inaugural ‘A Good Company’ competition, Pollisum Engineering took top position with 2 percent improvement in the reduction of carbon emissions. The second and third place winners were Wendy Transport Enterprise Co and Hoysan Group, respectively, both with about 1 percent improvement in carbon reduction.

The prize-giving ceremonies took place last week, when winning drivers were presented with limited-edition Scania merchandise, while winning companies were awarded Scania For Good Loyalty Points, which can be redeemed for workshop services and genuine parts.
