As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on 2024. While we may sometimes wish the shift towards electrification could move faster, it’s clear that the transport industry made significant strides forward this year.
Take charging, for example. We saw Milence – the industry joint venture aiming to establish 1,700 charging points across Europe by 2027 – picking up pace with several new hubs opening. We saw the continued roll-out of Scania Charging Access, a service making it easier for customers to access public truck charging points. And we saw Scania take another bold step with the formation of Erinion, a new company dedicated to providing intelligent charging solutions to further support customers on their journey towards electric transport.
Expanded scope of electrified applications
Another big trend was that, with Scania’s latest electric vehicle range, the scope of applications ready to electrify here and now has rapidly expanded. One standout example was the electric timber truck that Scania unveiled during 2024, a shining illustration of the possibilities for BEV innovation.
But it’s not only Scania that’s been driving innovation this year. Many transport companies have advanced their own electrification journeys, often inspired by their progressive sustainability goals. We saw examples ranging from long-haulage operations to a major German food logistics operator committing to a complete e-mobility solution – including plans to harness solar energy from its own warehouse roof.
Time to recharge energy for next year
Now, as the holiday season approaches, it’s time to remind ourselves of the importance of recharging. Let’s take time to breathe out, reflect on the year that’s passed, and spend meaningful moments with our loved ones.
