60 years of Scania UK

Six decades of diamond service to the UK

This year marks an important milestone in Scania's association with the UK. We’re 60.

On 14 December 1964, Scania UK was officially formed. And six decades on, our mission remains the same. Driving the Shift for a better tomorrow for our industry, the UK and, most importantly, for the people who count on us – our customers.

Over the years, we’ve imported some brilliant vehicles to the UK. These include the 2 and 3 Series, V8s and, in recent times, others that are kinder to the environment.

One thing remains true to this day. Nobody cares more about your business and your Scanias than we do.

Throughout those six decades, we’re proud to have and continue supporting companies and organisations up and down the country that keep the UK and Northern Ireland moving.

And while it’s our special anniversary, it wouldn’t be a celebration without inviting some guests to the party. Below are three videos from valued customers, who day in, day out provide an invaluable service to millions of people in the UK.

So, grab some popcorn, a comfy seat, anddddddd relax…

Episode 1: T. Alun Jones

People, relationships, and the Scania product have always been the cornerstone to our success. So, in recognition of that, we’ve visited some of our valued customers who have been long-term advocates of our brand. Through a short series of films, they share their experiences with Scania and explain how we’ve supported them during each of their business’s success stories.

Our first stop was T. Alun Jones Ltd, a proud family business based in Welshpool and established in 1961. We spoke with the family to delve into the backstory of T. Alun Jones; where it all started on their family farm, and how 40 years later they still operate an exclusively Scania fleet. During the visit we had a tour of their impressive heritage collection, showcasing their dedication to the upkeep and restoration of their iconic trucks. With three generations now involved in the business, we also look ahead to the future as we continue our partnership together.

Episode 2: P. C. Coaches

Our second stop features our longstanding bus and coach customer, P.C. Coaches of Lincoln. We talk to Peter Smith, the founder and Managing Director, to learn more about his relationship with Scania, which began in 1988. This family-run business includes three family members, including Peter’s son who was born on the very same day the company was established in 1978.

With a fleet of 119 vehicles, including 77 Scania’s, P.C. Coaches offers a diverse range of services, from private hire, school transport, continental trips, to the transportation of the Indian Air Force at RAF Warrington. We look ahead to the impending arrival of their new Scania GSR-compliant vehicles and how they plan to continue their expansion throughout Lincolnshire.

Episode 3: Mulgrew Haulage

You can’t miss Mulgrew Haulage on the roads in Northern Ireland. With a fleet of 240 vehicles, 80% of which are Scania, their striking orange trucks and trailers are truly eye-catching. For Mulgrew, it’s all about building strong relationships, whether with Road Trucks Ltd, their loyal customers, or the dedicated team that drives the business forward.

Our relationship with Mulgrew began in the late 1970s, when founder Dermot Mulgrew Senior, a mechanic by trade, recognised the quality in Scania – and the relationship has been growing ever since. Today, all three of his sons continue to expand the family business, achieving an impressive 10% year-on-year growth. Dermot Senior, still passionate about the company he built, visits the site daily to connect with the team and see his legacy in action.

From the past to the future, in this video we walk around their prestigious restored heritage truck, a restoration project of over four years, and we look into the future with HVO alternatives to help reduce their customers’ carbon footprint.
