She keeps track on environmental impact

13 NOVEMBER 2020

Development engineer Dora Burul calculates environmental impacts of products and services over their whole life cycle. She started her career at Scania after she graduated from the master’s programme Sustainable Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in 2018.

Burul actually graduated as a mechanical engineer in her home country Croatia first, but wanted to connect her knowledge more with renewable energy and sustainable technology.

Her first encounter with Scania was at the beginning of her studies in Stockholm. Later, she moved on to a summer job in Södertälje, and the match was made: “I did my master’s thesis at my current department, and it has been a good fit!”

Only the beginning

A day at work is a mix of collecting data on materials, fuels, use and end-of-life of products. “I discuss with colleagues and model a representative life cycle to identify hotspots and create scenarios showing how to mitigate environmental impacts with engineering solutions, disruptive technology and increased efficiency of transport.”

Right now, Burul wants to continue to delve deeper in sustainable transport. “It feels like I have only started discovering the potential of sustainable transport systems, so I look forward to learning more!"
