Scania is a global company that also cares deeply about the local communities in which we operate. Through community engagement and sponsorship we express Scania’s core values and our commitment to helping create a more sustainable society.
Scania’s Community Engagement and sponsorship initiatives are based on the firm belief that we can help build a better society for all. We are a partner in projects that support Scania’s core values and vision of driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system, creating a world of mobility that is better for business, society and the environment.
Areas we engage in
Scania works with like-minded partners across industry and beyond to drive the shift towards a sustainable transport system. We aim to create awareness about how a more sustainable transport system can contribute to a better world. Our platforms for advancing this message include partnerships with sports clubs, humanitarian organisations, university research facilities and environmental events.
One good example of Scania’s outreach here has been our pioneering equipment and transport support to the cross-country squad from Ski Team Sweden. Scania first provided a customised waxing trailer for the squad in 2008, which has continued to evolve ever since. Scania has also supplied a coach to transport the team between competitions, which includes kitchenette, lockers and massage bench. In addition, the team benefits from our more traditional sponsorship aimed at brand exposure.
Education and skills – especially in the STEM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – are vital to Scania’s future. Scania partners with schools and further education institutions in initiatives that boost STEM because this helps us capture the competences and innovation capabilities we need to keep developing our business long term.
Our involvement in this area includes being a proud Nobel International Partner since 2013, where we support seminars, lectures, conferences and exhibitions known as Nobel Prize Dialogues, while highlighting on a global scale the future challenges relating to the shift towards sustainable transport.
Scania’s commitment to sustainability is not restricted to transport. We can provide support and resources after a natural disaster, help prevent the spread of disease or participate in long-term projects that boost diversity and gender equality or combat bullying.
War Child
This work includes a partnership with the international NGO War Child in a unique joint mentorship programme that allows Scania employees to use part of their working hours to mentor young people who have newly arrived in the Swedish municipality of Södertälje, Sweden, home to Scania’s head office.
Scania forest
Since 2013, Scania Ibérica has planted one tree for every vehicle sold in Spain and Portugal. The Bosque Scania – “Scania Forest” – in Rivas Vaciamadrid, close to the Spanish capital, is now filled with more than 24,000 pine, oak, cypress and almond trees. Similar tree-planting initiatives are run by Scania Brasil and Scania South Africa. And in Ghana’s capital city Accra, our ‘Women moving the city’ and ‘Women moving trucks’ campaigns have helped to provide better employment opportunities for women in the country’s transport industry.
Such partnerships are platforms to discuss sustainable transport, but, above all, they contribute towards a sustainable society.
Scania also looks to drive positive change through local partnerships and sponsorships, including in our hometown of Södertälje. In Södertälje Scania has been a longstanding sponsor of the city’s basketball and ice hockey clubs, as well as several all-ages clubs in football, swimming, , orienteering and floorball. The company also has a strong commitment to social initiatives, including our sponsorship of Södertäljejourerna, which provides on-call support, information and activities for young people, women and victims of crime.
