YETD competition changed Marek’s life

On April 17, 2008, Marek Szerenos, winner of the Young European Truck Driver (YETD) 2007 competition, received his long-awaited prize: a brand new Scania R-series truck.

The handover ceremony took place at Scania Polska headquarters in Nadarzyn and was witnessed by Scania Polska employees and management, journalists, other Polish YETD 2007 finalists and representatives of institutions involved in promoting road safety in Poland.

During the ceremony, Scania Polska's Managing Director Alexander Vlaskamp stressed the importance of recurrent driver training for safety on Polish roads. He added that the YETD competition has proved to be among the best ways to educate both drivers and authorities and to create greater public awareness of truck driving as an important, interesting and demanding occupation.

Marek Szerenos, the ambassador of European professional drivers, said:

"I have the same feelings as in Sweden just after the announcement that I was the winner. All my feelings and images from the YETD 07 final came back. I would like to once again meet all my friends and the people I met there in order to say hello and to thank them again for a great competition. This wonderful event changed my life."

"The new Scania I received today will always remind me that training means safety, and that responsibility and driving with imagination are the keys to safety and economy."

"I just realised that now every truck driver will recognise me on the road. I feel a responsibility to act as an ambassador for truck drivers. In practical terms this means spending more time with the colleagues I meet on the road, as well as publicly expressing what driving a truck is about. And I’m ready to take on this challenge," he added.
